Homework 10

Due April 7

Part 1

Paper is due. See grading sheet (available on the main Resources page) for guidelines. Please plan to submit a hard copy (easier and more comfortable for me to read) and email an electronic copy. (Do I need to remind you to scan for viruses first?)

The electronic copy will let me insert comments in your work and email the paper back to you - perhaps saving you a trip to the campus. I will accept Word, AppleWorks, or Rich Text Format documents. Please name the file with your last name.

March 31 will be a work session for your papers. You can visit the classroom during the regularly scheduled time to get help from Becky or Dr. Lange. This is optional.

Part 2

If you haven't already, please turn in evidence of your PERC or Writing Center appointment on April 7. To support you in writing your literature review or research proposal, you will be required to do one (and only one) of the following tasks. You may do both - in fact, I recommend it. Remember that only one is required.

  • The University Writing Center offers free consultations to help you improve your writing. Get some constructive criticism before you hand in your paper! When you visit your writing consultant, take along the work you've completed so far, along with a description of the writing assignment. Be prepared to tell the consultant about your specific concerns. You can schedule a consultation online. Have a long drive? Contact them to see if they can make alternative arrangements for you.
  • NO MORE APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE - The library is refusing all further requests for PERC sessions from this class. Visit the Writing Center instead. Take time for a Personalized Electronic Resource Consultation (PERC) session with one of the reference librarians. One-on-one expert help from a reference librarian is available at no charge. Let a pro help you find the resources you need. You'll learn how it's done and become a more proficient researcher in the process. Before arriving for your PERC session, you should do some preliminary searching on your specific research topic. The PERC consultant can help you refine your results or find things you may not be able to find on your own. You can schedule online. Live far from campus? PERC sessions are also available at some of the area campuses if that is more convenient.

Resources

Review links and resources from previous weeks and the main Resources page to help you in preparing your project.

Making Effective Oral Presentations - This website was created for a speech communication class. It offers excellent advice about developing speeches and using visual aids. Don't forget to read about practice and delivery. It's a very important step.
