Assignment 1: Read Teachers as Leaders

Read chapter 1, "Teachers as Leaders," from Leadership Strategies for Teachers by Professor Eunice Meredith. You will complete the reflective activity at the end of the chapter: Looking Back/Reaching Forward.

Response: Due mid-week

For this week's discussion posting, you will share your observations on this reflective exercise. As you create your posting, please draw from the body of the assigned reading, along with the outside research you did, to explain and elaborate your thoughts and ideas. Practice giving credit for ideas that aren't your own by making your best attempt at APA style. Don't worry if it's not perfect, yet. You won't lose points for errors in format, but you DO need to give it a go!

Review the Content Response Rubric [pdf] for guidance on constructing your response to the reading.

Replies to Classmates: Due end-of-week

This week, begin building a learning community by supporting your classmates. Please reply to at least two of your classmates. Read their responses to the REACH chapter and help them stretch their thinking by using some of the articles you found and drawing on important ideas from other classmates. You and your classmates will begin to build on each other's information to form a richer, more meaningful understanding of Meredith's model and integrating outside information into your understanding.

Review the Classroom Conversation Rubric for guidance on joining the unfolding conversation.

Grading

Your response is worth 8 points and your replies to your classmates are worth another 8 points.
