Web page creation tools
Creating a web page is easy with these tools. Take a look at some of these to decide if one is right for you. If none of these fit your style, visit your favorite search engine and look for one you like better.
Free
    • NiceNet.org - Advertisement-free, and protected behind a password, Nicenet has a calendar feature, a conference feature, and a link sharing feature.
    • Think.com - Sponsored by Oracle Corporation, Think.com lets teachers post homework and announcements and use protected email and discussion boards to work with their students. Even students can create web sites to showcase class projects. Be sure to take the Teacher Tour to learn more.
    • Assign-A-Day - Create a free assignment calendar to help students keep track of their assignments.
    • Blogging is all the rage these days. In fact, Merriam-Webster announced "blog" as the Word of the Year for 2004. Take a look at Blogger - a free, easy-to-use blog. Interested community members must either visit your blog or subscribe to your blog's feed. (If they're geeky enough to be reading feeds, they'll know how to get yours.)
      • Find out How Blogs Work. This link will help you set up a free Blogger account.
      • One of the easiest ways to read blog feeds is through Bloglines. (It's how I do it). Find out how.
Inexpensive
    • ClassWebs.net - Built especially for teachers, ClassWebs lets you create web pages for your classes, a special page for parents, and post a photo gallery. Be sure to look at their sample website for an idea of what is possible. Cost is only $25/year.
    • TeacherWeb - Pick a template, click on a graphic, fill in a form, and you're done. Post homework, post a quiz, put up a calendar, announce homework, send out a news flash. Visit a sample web site showcasing each kind of page. Free 30-day trial available to teachers. Annual cost is $25.00.
    • QUIA - An acronym for quintessential instructional archive, QUIA offers teachers a small web site and the opportunity to create interactive puzzles and surveys for students and parents. Visit a QUIA page a colleague of mine made. Annual cost is $50.00.
