ED Tech Course Redesign

During Fall 2003, I took a course on Curriculum Design. As the course progressed, we wrote three papers focusing on a "real" curriculum design issue. This was a Master's level class and most of those enrolled in the class were working professionals. As a full-time student, I was required to develop my project outside the context of a "current job." I decided to focus my efforts on the design of a course on Integrating Teaching and Technology. I chose to develop this course because it is one I would like to teach it in the future.

Analysis of the Curriculum Environment - This first paper focused on the curriculum environment. For this paper, I analyzed the higher education environment in which this class might be taught as well as the K-12 environment for which such a class would prepare preservice teachers.

Integrating Teaching and Technology - The second paper describes the course I designed including such things as rationale, goals, objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment strategies.

Implementation Plan - The final paper outlines a plan to implement the curriculum proposed in the second paper. My first two papers focused on teaching the class at a small private university. Because the final paper required a plan to demonstrate buy-in from other instructors, I shifted my context to a large state university.

I believe this series of papers illustrates my understanding of the reality of the K-12 environment and what teachers need to know to enhance their teaching through the use of technology. I hope to one day have the opportunity to teach a class much like the one I've designed.
